Copyright Policy


Paradigma Journal of Social Sciences is an open-access academic journal that upholds the principle of free circulation of scientific knowledge as a public good. Accordingly, the journal’s copyright and licensing policies are designed to protect the intellectual property rights of authors while promoting the widest possible dissemination of academic knowledge.

Paradigma simultaneously safeguards both the author’s right to intellectual ownership and the public’s right to open access. Its copyright framework is fully compliant with international publishing ethics and best practices, including the guidelines of COPE, WAME, ICMJE, OASPA, DOAJ, and BOAI.

1. Ownership of Copyright

All moral rights of the works published in Paradigma Journal of Social Sciences belong to the authors. Authors retain full intellectual and scientific responsibility for their work. The journal holds only the first publication right.

In this context:

  • The copyright remains with the author(s); the journal is granted permission to publish and archive the article.
  • The author(s) bear all scientific and ethical responsibility for the content, data, and conclusions of their work.
  • The journal holds the right to reproduce, index, and distribute the article for academic and educational purposes only.

This policy both protects the author’s intellectual effort and supports the free flow of knowledge.

2. Publication Right and Permission to Publish

By submitting their manuscripts to Paradigma Journal of Social Sciences, authors grant the journal the right of first publication.

Upon acceptance, each author must sign the Copyright and Open Access Agreement Form, which specifies that:

  • The journal may publish the article in both print and electronic formats.
  • The article may be included in national and international databases, archives, and indexing services.
  • The journal may re-publish the article in its original format, translate it, or include it in special issues, provided that the author’s name is always cited.

3. Creative Commons License (CC BY-NC 4.0)

All content published in Paradigma Journal of Social Sciences is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license.

Under this license:

  • Users may share, copy, distribute, and adapt the work for non-commercial purposes, provided that proper attribution is given to the original author.
  • Commercial use of the content is not permitted.
  • Authors retain their intellectual property rights but grant the journal the right to publish the work under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.

This model protects author ownership while enabling the free exchange of scientific knowledge across academic communities.

4. Authors’ Rights and Responsibilities

Paradigma Journal of Social Sciences upholds an open-access policy that protects the rights of authors.

Authors may:

  • Share their published articles on personal websites, institutional repositories, or academic networks (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu) with full citation to the journal.
  • Cite their work as follows:

  • Integrate the published article into books, reports, or theses with prior notification and appropriate citation.

5. Readers’ and Users’ Rights

The journal’s content is freely accessible to all users. Readers are permitted to:

  • Read, download, print, and share articles freely.
  • Use article links and references for educational or scholarly purposes.
  • Not reproduce or sell journal content for commercial purposes.

Paradigma supports universal access to knowledge and ensures long-term open archiving of all published materials.

6. Third-Party Content and Permissions

Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions to use any third-party copyrighted material (e.g., figures, maps, tables, or photographs).
If such permissions are not secured, the journal reserves the right to remove the material or reject the article.
All third-party content must be properly credited in the manuscript.

7. Republishing and Derivative Works

Paradigma Journal of Social Sciences allows the translation, adaptation, or extended versions of published articles, provided that the original source is clearly cited.

Derivative or translated works may not be published for commercial purposes without the author’s consent. The journal grants rights for academic and educational purposes only.

8. Copyright Infringement and Legal Actions

The journal enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward copyright violations.

If plagiarism, false authorship, data manipulation, or unauthorized use of materials is detected:

  • The article will be retracted following the COPE Retraction Guidelines.
  • Legal notifications may be made to relevant institutions or ethics committees.
  • The case will be reported to the concerned author’s institution.

9. Archiving and Metadata Preservation

Each published article receives a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for permanent identification.

All metadata (title, author name, abstract, keywords, DOI, references, etc.) are transmitted to international indexing and archiving databases such as CrossRef, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and OpenAIRE.

The journal’s archives are protected through PKP Preservation Network (PN) and LOCKSS for long-term digital preservation.

10. Academic Impact of the Licensing Model

Paradigma Journal of Social Sciences views the CC BY-NC 4.0 license not merely as a legal framework but as an academic philosophy that promotes:

  • The free sharing of scientific production,
  • Equitable access to knowledge,
  • Fair recognition of intellectual labor, and
  • The transformation of knowledge into public benefit.
